Welcome to SJL

St. John Lutheran Church established its Christian school in the fall of 1864 to provide the children of the congregation and other children of the community with a Christ-centered education.

The school has grown from one teacher in one classroom to one classroom per grade, including a preschool and year-round child care program. The members of St. John financially and prayerfully support the school as a ministry to Christian families and as a mission outreach to the community.

St. John Lutheran School, locally known as SJL, is state-recognized and also carries voluntary accreditation through the National Lutheran School Accreditation Commission – a rigorous process that requires verification of ongoing improvement.

2025-2026 School Year Theme

This year we’ll gather under the theme For All. For Jesus. Always. This is more than just a theme – it’s our new mission statement as a church and school community. This year, we want to grow as a people devoted to Jesus, living every moment for Him — for all people, in every place, always. Our dream is that our lives, our congregation, and our city will reflect His love and be transformed — all for Jesus. This year, we will dive into the stories of Bible characters who lived boldly for Him, reflect on the greatest example of Jesus’ love, and grow in confidence as we live out our faith, even through our doubts and disappointments. We pray that the Lord would make us a people who carry His name with joy — for all, for Jesus, always.

Theme Verse for the School Year: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
